Turkish ruling AK party favors plebiscite for Taksim Gezi Park
Deputy chairman of Justice & Development Party Celik stated that executive board of the ruling AK party by consensus supported a plebiscite to be hold across Istanbul after the court decision
Speaking in a press conference after the executive board meeting of the ruling AK Party (MKYK), Celik said they would support a plebiscite on construction plans for Taksim Gezi Park if the court decides in favor of it.
"We reached a consensus within ourselves regarding plebiscite, to share our political responsibility in the issue as AK Party. This decision can serve as an advice for the Istanbul Municipality," Celik told.
He announced the latest amount of loss in Gezi Park incidents as "291 working offices were destroyed, 271 private cars, 116 patrol cars and 41 ambulances were shattered, 14 party buildings were attacked with an estimated material damage of 140 trillion TL."
During Gezi Park protests, Turkish government showed what democratic tolerance is, Celik underlined, saying that "patience, dialogue, and common sense were displayed."
Social media needs an ethics regulation
Celik also stated that social media and cyber world needed an ethics regulation as both printed and visual media.
A ban on social media from AK Party is out of the question, Celik said and added, "Nobody shall present AK Party as contrary to social media."
262 fake Twitter accounts were detected, which were opened with the aim to incite people to riot and trigger the protests of Gezi Park.
